Alberto Núñez Feijóo

Alberto Núñez Feijóo – President of the Xunta

He was born in Ourense in September 1961. He graduated in Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela, holds the diploma of directors of the Xunta de Galicia and is an official of the Regional Administration, where he joined in 1985 as a member of the Superior Body of the General Administration of the Xunta.

In July 1991, he was appointed Secretary General at the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry and, three months later, acceded to the Department of Health and Social Services, to serve until 1996 as Secretary General . From 1992 to 1996 he served as Vice President and Secretary General of the Galician Health Service.

Subsequently, in 1996 and until 2000, he held the positions of Secretary General of Health Assistance in the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and was President of the Spanish National Institute of Health.

Between May 2000 and June 2001, he served as Director-General of the public business entity Post and Telegraphs and, from June 2001 to January 2003, he was president of the State Society of Post and Telegraphs Inc.

He acceded to the position of Director of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Housing on January 18, 2003, and was appointed first vice president of the Xunta de Galicia on September 10, 2004.

In October 2003 he was distinguished with the Grand Cross of Isabella I of Castile.

Since April 18, 2009 he is president of the Xunta de Galicia.
